PATTEN – A year after celebrating their 90th birthdays, Raymond and Madelyn Porter gathered with family and friends to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on July 8, 2012, at their home in Patten.
Since their marriage, Ray and Madelyn have lived in Patten and at Shin Pond where they raised three children including Linda of Derry, N.H., John and his wife, Deborah, of Patten and Judy of Dover-Foxcroft. Their family also includes six grandchildren, Eric LaPensee, Emily Porter, Heidi and Shawn Porter, and Matthew and Jeffrey Dale; and great-grandchildren, Gillian Porter and Brennan and Ella Hubbard.
Ray and Madelyn established two very successful businesses throughout the years, Porter’s Flying Service at Shin Pond and Porter’s Woodworking in Patten. Ray continues to make paddles and various other items in his shop, and they plant and tend two large gardens which require Madelyn’s canning, pickling and freezing expertise. They also continue to enjoy activities with family and friends including fishing, hunting, berry-picking and playing cards.
